Notes from Fall meeting at Marist 9/21/02
- Attendance: There were 125 present.
- Rules Clinic: David Neville conducted a Rules Clinic for the
first hour on the meeting.
- Business meeting: President Rick Creed welcomed everyone and
introduced the additional elected officers Richard Tavernaro (North Cobb) Vice
President, Terry Blish (Marist) Secretary/Treasurer, and Pete Higgins
(Westminster) Training Director
- Treasurer's Report: Terry Blish gave the Treasurer's report.
He stated that we have depleted our reserve and are starting this year with
only $37.00 in the bank. Both Terry Blish and Rick Creed spoke to the
question of everyone joining and paying either the individual dues of $25.00
or the total school staff dues of $40.00.
- Old Business: Rick Creed went over the State Meet format
changes for the 2002-2003 season. He stated that the time standards for
both meets will remain the same as last year.

- Membership dues: Rick Creed cited the many reasons for
joining GHSSCA and how our monies are allocated.
- New coaches: Both coaches for new school programs and
community coaches were encourage to contact other coaches in their area and to
use the GHSSCA web site for gaining helpful information for the season.
- Newspaper publicity: Jan Allen (Westminster) was
introduced as our point person and resource person for better newspaper
coverage with the Atlanta paper.
- Zone structure: Richard Tavernaro went over our seven zones
throughout the state and indentified the counties in each of the zones.
In an effort to improve our communication throughout the state we will use
zone directors.
- GHSSCA web site: Pete Higgins asked for suggestions on
improvements that can be made to our web site.
- State Meet verification process: Franke Marsden gave a very
thorough demonstration on the use of Team Manager II Lite for submitting
performances for the state meets.
- Handicapped swimmers and divers: Rick Creed led this
discussion. After much discussion the following motions was passed:
That any decision by the Georgia High School Association to not abide by rules
set forth in the National Federation Rule Book governing a sport should be
presented to and studied by the appropriate GHSA sports committee and the GHSA
officials committee pertaining to the conduct of the sport in question.
This will be presented to the GHSA.
- Spring meeting: The GHSSCA spring meeting is scheduled for
March 15, 2003 at Marist at 9:00 a.m.
