Notes from GHSSCA March 12, 2005 meeting

  • Attendance:  There were 33 present at the meeting.
  • Business meeting:  President Rick Creed welcomed everyone and introduced the additional elected officers Richard Tavernaro (North Cobb) Vice President, Terry Blish (Marist) Secretary/Treasurer, and Pete Higgins (Westminster) Training Director.
  • Treasurer's Report:  Terry Blish gave the Treasurer's report.
  • Old business:   A discussion of the State Meet was held.
  • New business:  As a follow-up on the State Meet discussion, it was decided that a better scheduling of events for the 2005-2006 State Meet would be to have the Diving for both 5A and 1-4A schools held on Wednesday so as to not mix the diving and swimming for either meet on the same day.  It was voted to ask for a change in the false start procedure.  It is our wish to not recall the athletes if a false start occurs and to make any disqualifying decisions at the conclusion of the race.  Dual confirmation will still be required for a disqualification.
  • Election of President, Secretary-Treasurer and Vice-President:   Richard Tavernaro (North Cobb) was elected President and Terry Blish (Marist) was reelected to serve another term as our Secretary-Treasurer.  Since Richard Tavernaro served as our Vice-President, his move to become President left the position of Vice-President open.  A special election was held for the position of Vice-President and Jim Reason (Duluth) was selected as our new Vice-President.  Congratulations to all three of these outstanding coaches and leaders.
  • High Scoring Teams:  The high scoring teams in the A-AA-AAA-AAAA 2004 State Meet were announced and they received the GHSSCA plaques for their accomplishment.

  • Swimmer-of-the-Year:  5A Girls is Carolyn Jones (Glynn Academy) and Joseph Redmon (Newnan) for the 5A Boys.  In the 1-4A Girls Kathleen Hersey (Marist) and Dan McMahon (Marist) for the 1-4A Boys.
